QuestionsCategory: Volunteer ManagementCASA Training and the COVID-19

Just curious if anyone is considering canceling pre-service training that is scheduled in the next month or two?  Ours starts in a few weeks, but will have a small class (under 7) so feeling like it will be okay. We already sent out an email to active volunteers regarding the virus and asking them to limit contact with their CASA children and others if they are feeling sick, etc.  Luckily, we have no big in-person fundraisers coming up.  Susan Erickson

We have ours this coming week with a class of a couple so we plan to continue our pre-service. We also have a fundraiser on April 25th and we hope by the Governors 250 group ban will be lifted by then, if not we will have to postpone for another month.

Thanks Jesus

We have been discussing this and since ours are only 6 in one county and 4 in another, we are going with it. Of course we are giving them the option, but so far everyone is excited to do something.

Susan, Jackson County has a training scheduled to start on May 5. We are brainstorming alternative plans, such as Zoom or Google Hangouts to do a live webinar from our conference room or PC with everyone logging in simultaneously. We have just started to talk about this. In addition, we have makeup work for every lesson that we could have trainees complete and email to us after they do the reading. These are some different ideas we are discussing but we haven’t landed on anything yet. Wenonoa

Thanks. We do Flex so half of it is online anyway. Offering virtual training for the rest is an idea. We are going to talk about it as a staff on Monday.

That’s a good idea! Ugh…so many weird decisions to make!

Clackamas County has a training scheduled to begin on 4/14. Like others, we are discussing alternatives. No decision has yet been made. However all March events are cancelled except for swearing in 13 new CASAs next Tuesday. We are limiting the class.ceremony to only CASAs, no guests, the judge, her clerk, and one staff person. We will be reaching out to everyone on Monday to make sure they are still willing to attend.
In addition, I have implemented WFH protocols and divided staff into teams. Team 1 works int he office on Monday, Team 2 on Tuesday/Wednesday and Team 3 on Thursday/Friday. That way we don’t cross contaminate each other. We have a 4x daily wipe-down protocol and are keeping our distance from each other.
Lastly, there is a spot on our website https://www.casa-cc.org/covid19  for more information. You can sign up to  be on our email list if you’re interested. Today we will be sending an email with guidance about visiting as per National CASAs recent information. And we continue to communicate regularly with partners and volunteers.
Stay safe and healthy!

Thanks! I’m all signed up to receive. If anyone else has email lists for newsletters, etc, I would love to get them! I am not there yet so love gathering as many ideas as I can.
