Shary retired from the Oregon Judicial Department in November of 2020 after 27 years. In her most recent position, Juvenile Court Improvement Program (JCIP) Model Court and Training Analyst, she provided training and education on child welfare policy, practice and juvenile law to judges, court staff, CRB staff and volunteers, the nine federally recognized tribes in Oregon, ODHS staff, and community partners. She served as the liaison between JCIP, CRB (Citizen Review Board) and the nine tribes. She also provided technical assistance and support to Model Court Teams, and analyzed child welfare policy affecting the courts and CRB. She is the past president of the Children’s Justice Act Task Force and the Tillamook County Commission on Children and Families, and past Vice Chair of CASA of Tillamook County. She is a member of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and NICWA (National Indian Child Welfare Act). Shary and her husband Don fostered and adopted their niece (26) and their grandson (23) as infants.
